THE BLIND SIDE: A MOVIE REVIEW ON THE STORY OF MICHAEL OHER

People are hooked watching movies, even if it is not realistic. We are accustomed of stories like The Avengers; the vampire stories which are very mainstream especially the one involving the relationship between a woman and a man living in the underworld who has supernatural abilities. However, there are movie lovers like me who is fond of watching “true to life stories” or “based-on a true story” types of film. Each one of us can relate ourselves on the movies we watched. According to Tony Schwartz’s theory “resonance”, when someone watched television, listen to a radio or even see an advertisement if we found out that we can easily get to relate ourselves and remember something in the past that match what we see, there is a resonance. Now why do I tell this? It’s just because I can also remember things from my past when I watch a certain film and maybe you too experienced it. If you are a sports lover, I am sure whether you are successful or not in the field you are into, you will definitely love the film by John LeeHancock. But do not you, those who are not very much in to sports will also embrace this good movie produced.
A heartfelt, mellow-dramatic and a must-see film, entitled “The Blind Side” casting SandraBullock, Tim McGraw and Aaron Quintana. The latter portrayed the role of Michael Oher, a football player, whose big bulk and ample physique enables him to strike and knock-out his adversaries with great ease. He is now a successful football player who was officially adopted by Mrs. Leigh Anne and Mr. Sean Tuohy. They are also the reason for Oher’s scholarship at The University ofMississippi or Ole Miss. He is also lucky to be with the children of the Touhy couple, SJ played by Jae- Head and Collins played by Lily Collins. The chronological arrangement of the movie was plotted perfectly and elaborately. Ever since, I was always touched by a family-oriented story, just like “The Blind Side” which was actually based on the book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a game” was written by Michael Lewis. It showed that there are still people in the society who are not after the physical appearance or the culture of who they will lend their help to. The moral of the story taught me to be more sensitive with others’ social status in life and to have the need to help others without any favor in return. Football is a game in America which is intently for man with a strong-build up. Having a clear mind is also needed in order to win and compete fully strong. There are also mockers not only in the audience but also in the actual game. Your opponents will try to turn you down so that you will lose your concentrations; “stick and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” quoted Mrs. Touhy. Words are always a deadly weapon. These are the common scenarios; Michael Oher is facing difficulties when he is in the game. At first, he encounters failure. He is always aggressive but his actions were in a wrong move. With the help of SJ Touhy, he was trained in a one-on one football lesson. The success of the story will not be complete without the woman who is very compassionate in helping Michael Oher. She is dedicated, eager and loving who wanted to teach someone and also learn back from that someone. Had it not been for Ms. Leigh Ann Touhy, Michael will always stays as if he see himself as nothing. The character of Mrs. Touhy that had always been at Michael’s back especially on his downsides showed how a loving parent is. The role was been justified with the acting of Bullock, whose performance touched my heart. She has been in different roles and different character approaches but she is a winner for me in this film. Professionally played but not too stiffed, she showed the real Ms. Tuohy and on how it act as a supportive parent with her kids. The supporting roles also of her husband, Sean was just appropriate for the character given to Tim McGraw. You will also like the acting of Jae-Head for he is funny and witty.
I hope that I did not spoil your moment in order to see the film. You might be guessing and eventually trying to come up on a bunch of answers why the film was entitled “The Blind Side” when you finished watching the movie; it is easy to conclude and agree of the title. But what if it had different meanings? I had kept my thoughts on how it was entitled; I figured it out of the box. Every successful player has their own story, maybe it is boring for others but it is worth for some people. We are in a cycle in which sometimes we are blind to see what we can share and teach others, and most of the time we learned from them. I hope you will enjoy the movie “The Blind Side” and as you watch it, carefully listen to the voice over because sometimes it seems unimportant. But Sandra Bullock has a clue to say that is related to the whole story. She says “to protect the quarter back of what he can’t see, to protect his blind side.”
